What is CrossFit?

CrossFit is an intense and awesome core strength and conditioning program based on constantly varied, high intensity functional movement. It isn’t a specialised fitness program but a deliberate attempt to optimize physical competence in each of ten recognized fitness domains. They are Cardiovascular and Respiratory Endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance, and Accuracy. It delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive.

We have been involved in helping people with their fitness goals for many years and, with that experience, we recognise that each individual is at a very different place on their fitness journey. For some, exercise may have been in their past and today is the day that they have made the decision to improve their quality of life by getting fit. For others, it is about being challenged and pushed far beyond what they ever thought they were capable of.

How Do I Know If I’ll Like It?

Send us an email or give us a call to discuss which class, day and time would be best. It's that easy!!

How Do I Get Started?

There's no waiting for an Introduction programme or attending weeks of basic classes before you get to join regular CrossFit classes.

If you want to start CrossFit you can become a CrossFit Power Station member and join in any of our CrossFit classes straight away. We teach you the terminology and basic movements as you workout. When the rest of the class is using a barbell and weights we'll work with you to learn the same movements with a practice stick. We also run barbell workshops - once you've completed this you can also start working on your weight training!

CrossFit Training

We offer CrossFit classes morning and evening  – all levels of experience and fitness are welcome to all classes. The workouts can be scaled to suit individuals. Our members enjoy the energy from the group workouts and the support and camaraderie they receive. The classes are kept small enough to ensure you get personalised attention and coaching: our members get the benefit of both personal training (individual coaching) and group classes (fun, motivating and cost effective).

If you check out our Timetable you'll see a couple of different CrossFit groups: CrossFit Lite (body weight exercises, no weightlifting), and CrossFit (group training sessions that include all aspects of CrossFit movements including Olympic Lifting and Gymnastics scaled to suit the individual).

We run an online booking system – all members are required to book into their classes.

Am I Too Old or Too Young?

CrossFit is for everyone – age is not a limitation!

CrossFit Power Station is a licenced affiliate for the popular CrossFit Kids & Teens programme.

CrossFit Kids

CrossFit Power Station is licensed to hold CrossFit Kids classes with qualified CrossFit Kids Trainers. Contact us for more information on these fun classes if you have kids aged between 5 – 13years. Our Timetable shows the days, times and age splits for this fun and energetic group!!

CrossFit Teens

Many of our teens participate in the Adult classes – this is judged on a case by case basis. We also have a separate Teens class for those aged 13 - 18 years. Our Teens are particularly successful in local competitions - both as individuals and as a Junior Team. If you are a teenager check out our Next Generation page and contact us to discuss what is best for you or your teen.

 CrossFit Masters

We also have a number of members who are older than the 20 - 35 year age group!!

In fact our Masters (40+yrs) have placed well in local competitions as individuals and in pairs and team comps.

We all train together and support one another – regardless of age or level of fitness.

Can I Compete?

CFPS members participate in a number of in-house, local, national and international competitions throughout the year. These range from beginner to Rx level and can be as an individual, or part of a pair or  team. We also invite specialist coaches throughout the year to hold courses for those who are interested in advancing their skill base in particular areas.

We have a number of Members who hold rankings within NZ and on an international level - check out our Next Generation page for details on our Teens. Our Masters athletes are also very successful, competing as a team or as individuals.

Visitors to CrossFit Power Station (Our Drop In Policy)

Visiting CrossFitters (from out of town or from another country) are welcome at CFPS – you must however contact us prior to turning up to a class. We need to establish your level of experience to ensure your own safety and that of our other members. We are unable to accept unannounced drop-ins.

Email us and let us know when you want to drop in. If you will be wanting to train at CFPS for an extended period we can arrange a purchase of a pack of classes ahead of time.

Show up for class a few minutes early and introduce yourself to the Coach. If you are planning on only a few training session, our casual rate is $20.

CFPS Dress Code

As we are a family gym and licensed to hold CrossFit Kids and Teens classes we ask that all members (and those visiting to workout) wear either a singlet or t-shirt during their workouts – including warm ups and warm downs.

Check out the Timetable for details on class times.

Make no mistake, the effort required is huge – but so are the results!!
